GLACIER - DAY 1
We hit the road around 6:30, about an hour and a half later than planned. Frankly, we were so freakin' tired! Camping is so, so, so much work. Paco didn't get home from work until about 1am, and finished loading the car. It was PACKED! It looked a little something like this:
Not to mention our roof carrier and 3 more bikes on the back of the van! We just barely had room for these two:
We stopped in St. Regis for breakfast at the Huckleberry patch. Quite possibly the best food we have ever had! YUM! We also checked out a funky little antiques shop...they had some neat stuff!

Then it was off for the last stretch of our trip to the Park. There are plenty of interesting things to see on the way there...like this...
and this rest stop, which is the NICEST rest stop I have ever seen. It actually had a lobby area with artwork, etc. How could I not document it?
which is also where we took these great pictures...

Finally, around 1:30, we arrived at the west entrance of Glacier National Park..

We got to Fish Creek campground and started setting things up. Our site was literally right on the creek...what a great sound to listen to at bedtime!
After setting up camp, we were HOT! We packed up our chairs, Ipods, magazines and snacks and headed to the lake, where we pretty much had the place to ourselves!

We finished out the day with dinner, a campfire and heading over to the Park Ranger program. All in all, day one was very busy!!
ALL SETTLED IN
We are back! We got home about 11:30 last night, and boy does it feel good to be home. Camping is a ridiculous amount of work. Glacier was beautiful, and the weather was perfect, sunny and very warm every day. We had our share of glitches, but had a great time nonetheless. Some of our highlights:
- Paco's fresh blueberry pancakes
- swimming in Lake McDonald
- huckleberry milkshakes
- 3 mile hike uphill to see the hidden lake (partially through the snow)
- seeing mountain goats, big horned sheep, a coyote, and lots of deer up close and personal
- campfires and smores
- bike rides
- lots of gorgeous scenery
- driving the going-to-the-sun road
- doing tacky tourist-y stuff
- playing games
- great, great family time
I'll be sharing pictures over the next few days, I've got 200 to sort through! Today we got everything unpacked, and the endless laundry process is underway. Its back to reality tomorrow!

WE'RE OUTTA HERE!
After an exhausting day of cleaning, organizing, packing, grocery shopping, prepping, cooking, phone calling, mowing, watering, apple pickuping (totally not a word....our apple tree in the backyard is dropping about 75 apples per day...such a pain in the you-know-what), laundry-ing, bill paying, and even a little swimming, we are this close to being ready for the Glacier trip. Paco's got the roof carrier on the van, the magellan is hooked up (Paco won it from work, sweet!), and he even surprised the kids by hooking up our old nintendo gaming system in the car. The kids don't know about it yet...shhhh. Gone are the days of looking out the window or reading during road trips. Kids these days are so...hooked up.
Paco had to work tonight, so we will be leaving at the crack 'o dawn tomorrow morning, around 5am. My camera is charged, and I am ready for some hard core picture taking! The drive is about 4 1/2 hours, which is a piece of cake for our family. We are used to the 5 hour drives to the cabin. We'll stop for breakfast and whatever else looks interesting. The kids have a bit of spending money, it will be fun to see what they pick out as souveneirs. As for Paco and I, we are just ready to relax for the next 5 days, and get in some well deserved family time.
We're outta here!

First of all, I want to say thank you to my friend Amy...
who so generously took on my 2 children ( along with her 3), this morning so I could take my Mom to the neurologist, and then after that for an unscheduled ultrasound. It was so much easier than trying to keep them busy, quiet, and occuppied! Thank you Amy, I owe you! If you happen to run into Amy, be a dear and take her kids for the afternoon, she needs a break!
and, my garden is coming along nicely...
but not as nicely as Amy's, who's tricks of early planting and magical bunny poop seem to be working fabulously.

In the long run, she will have less pain in her neck and arms. The kids and I pray for Grandma at night that she can heal quickly and get to hang out with us more!
I am busily trying to prepare for our trip to Glacier. Ok, not really. I begged asked our neighbor if she would feed the dogs and water my flowers and tomatoes so they don't dry up and die like they did last summer when we were away. Speaking of tomatoes, check out my topsy turvy! They've become more like tomato bushes than plants....
I digress.
Back to our trip. I've still got piles of stuff to do to get ready, but I just can't seem to motivate myself to get them done. This is so unlike me. Huh. weird. Oh yeah, I also have to sucker persuade Amanda to fish-sit for me. Yes, I said fish sit. Basically my tactic of "asking" will be more along the lines of showing up with Sweetie and Sharktooth (the kids' fish) in hand and guilting her into it. Because, well, thats what friends do.

AWAITING GLACIER
In 6 days we will be off to Glacier National Park. Everyone is excited and ready for some family time, as well as some downtime. This will be the kids' first time to Glacier, we are anxious to share it with them. We will spend 4 nights camping, and plan on doing lots of hiking, biking, exploring, knitting, reading, napping, snacking, snuggling, talking and whatever else comes our way.You may be wondering, are we ready for this trip? Have we made the lists, checked them twice, planned meals, shopping trips, charged batteries, etc? Well, of course....not. The family planner and organizing extraordinairre is running a bit behind on things. Yes, Yes, I will get it together. Maybe tomorrow. Or the day after. Possibly the night before. Heck, I don't know.
My Mom is doing well since her surgery. Well, as well as can be expected when you have to wear a big uncomfortable neck brace for 6 weeks straight and do much. We see the Doctor Thursday and are hoping she is on track as far as recovering.
I'm on day 6 of an 8 day stretch at work, but things should quiet down now that we made it through inventory! It's always such a relief. I also survived an audit last week that turned out great (for me, anyway), so I'm home free for the rest of summer! No worrying about things during my vacations. Paco and the kids went to church without me yesterday, and he has been great about doing fun stuff with them everyday while I'm working. He's great at that all the time anyway. Such a fun daddy!
For tonight, we are enjoying a cool, rainy gloomy evening. I'm snacking on veggies, chips and homemade garlic hummus. Wow, we are loving homemade hummus! Its delicious and so healthy! Check out this yummy stuff...

BIRTHDAY BOYS
Today is Paco's 34th birthday. Yep, I like 'em young! He went to breakfast with the kids and family (I had to work), and this evening the kids and I gave him some free time and made him a yummy dinner of salad with all organic veggies (carrots, radishes, cukes, tomatoes, red onion and sesame seeds), and blue cheese burgers. He did have to cook the burgers because I burn everything I ever put on the grill. It's one of those things that make me so charming. We enjoyed some pita chips and garlic hummus (oh so yummy), and now are stuffed!
Paco and his Dad share the same birthday. Cool, huh? So, happy birthday to the both of you, and may you both have many more wonderful years!

The kids have been spending the day with Daddy swimming and picking up apples out of our backyard. They both have their eyes on a new pool toy, and are working hard to earn it. I'm so glad the pool is back up and working, they love it!

BITS AND PIECES OF THIS AND THAT
Friends, it has been a busy couple of days. On Tuesday my Mom had neck surgery. All went well, and she is working on recovering. It will take some time, but hopefully this will be the start of a better chapter for her medically-wise. She was able to go home today! Hooray! She has to spend the next 6 weeks in a neck brace, and can't drive for 12 weeks. Please say prayers for a speedy recovery for her! Love you Mom!
My knitting is coming right along, although it does have quite a bit of "character", if you catch my drift! I'm making a scarf for Cole, and I know he'll love it. With any luck it may actually be done by the time winter rolls around.
We are starting to prepare for our trip to Glacier. Paco and I have been there but this will be the kids first trip. They are looking forward to more camping! Next month will bring more camping, cub scouts father/son sleepover on the Indians baseball field, and a trip to Grandma and Grandpa's cabin as well. Not to mention that Cole and Gracie are heading to Sweyolakan next month for day camp. I went there as a girl and have great memories. Can't wait to see what they think! I get emotional just thinking about it!
Oh, and just one more little thing ... Mr. Sutton turns 34 this Saturday! Give him grief!
