GARDEN VARIETY

All this summer heat has been so great for my garden, I'm so excited! The bush beans are coming along nicely....as are my pepper plants....One of my itsy-bitsy icebox watermelons....Two of about 20 cucumbers so far....the one on the bottom is HUGE, can't wait to see how big it gets....maybe I'll enter it in the fair? Hmmmm...but then we couldn't enjoy it. Lots and lots of yummy tomatoes....Crookneck squash....One of my two topsy turvy tomato plants. So far, this style of planting has worked great! The carrots are slow going, but they're getting there. My basil and oregano plants are doing well too, although I'm not entirely sure what to do with them now....cut them and dry them I guess? The cilantro never even sprouted...sigh...oh well. As for the raspberries, I just planted those this year so hopefully it will bear fruit next summer.

Having a garden is so rewarding! It's so much fun to take care of it, hardly any work (it's raised and has weed barrier underneath) and the kids love watching things grow from something as simple as a tiny seed. I love knowing that there are no pesticides or icky stuff on our veggies, just organic fertilizer and manure. The cucumbers are literally doubling in size every few days, its such a wonder! I've already got plans for expanding next season so I can include corn, onions, strawberries and zucchini. I'm gonna need alot more room!

P.S. No, I'm not the slightest bit embarassed about my neighbors seeing me take pictures of my vegetables. I can't help myself!
