AWESOME!

You may remember my post a few weeks back about "Kate's crazy cool Christmas"....and about Kate herself who is fighting a very aggressive brain tumor. Check out her Dad's blog about the success of the toy drive!! God is awesome!!

SLEEPOVER

Yesterday, we had our friend Carollynn (who lives across the street) over for a sleepover. Paco made homemade burgers for the kids and we popped up some popcorn for afterwards. We made a "tent" in our living room and the 3 of them had fun watching ghostbusters on Cole's portable dvd player.snacking on apples and reading Cole's Guinness book of world records. What a cool book! (thanks, Bubba!) Yes, my daughter has this weird knack of doing really weird stuff with her eyes, which she finds hilarious. all settled in.... deluxe hot cocoa with breakfast...along with vanilla banana flaxseed pancakes....
On another note, I have blogged ALOT over the past day or so, so be sure to scroll down so you don't miss any of the life shattering things I've talked about. HA!

I'M KINKY

No, not like THAT, what are you thinking?

I have completely messed up my back, neck and shoulders. Seriously. I woke up yesterday morning with a little kink in my lower back, but I figured it would work its way out...because it usually does. So, doing what Denise does, I pushed through it and made the sound decision to go to the gym. 50 elliptical minutes later, things went downhill. I always make the smartest decisions.

My loving husband made me a wonderfully hot bath last night, and made dinner for the kids and their friend from across the street who was spending the night. We got the kids to sleep and I warmed up my cornbag and climbed into bed, anxious to wake up feeling good as new so we could go to church and then.....the gym. Yes, I really did plan to do it all again today. I always make the smartest decisions.

Instead, I have had my morning breakfast of 3 ibuprofen and 1 hydrocodone.

See, I told you I was kinky.

FLAXSEED

Favorite healthy food # 2 ? Ground flaxseed. Oh my, I love this little superfood. It's one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet. Flaxseed can lower cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. It's full of fiber and Omega 3 fatty acids. Research has revealed that lignan in flax seed shows a lot of promise in fighting diseases such as breast cancer, and helps boost your immune system. Not bad, huh?

I use flaxseed every single day. I prefer to buy it in the bulk foods section and grind it myself in my coffee grinder. (obviously, clean our your grinder first!) It's also cheap to buy it this way! We put it in all our smoothies, on top of cereal, in pancakes, include it in our bread recipes, and on sandwiches. One of my favorite ways to have it is to spread a little peanut butter on a banana, and then sprinkle flaxseed on it. It has a nutty flavor to it. Because its so rich in protein and fiber, it is very filling, which may stop you from reaching from that package of delicious mint oreos!!

Coming tomorrow.....smoothies. Mmmmmm!!

RAINBOW CAKE

Now I know I've been talking all "healthy" lately, and I really am sticking with that...

BUT. Will you look at this cake? Gimme. Check out all her other yummy wonderfulness here!!
Gimme.

FAVORITE THINGS

Since I have been so focused the past few months on a healthier lifestyle, I thought it would be fun to share some of my new favorite things pertaining to health and nutrition. So, each day for the next week or so, I will post one thing that I "can't live without", just for fun!

Today's item? ALMOND MILK. Where has it been all my life? Seriously, this stuff is divine. It's low in calories, low in fat and is cholesterol free. Its lactose and gluten free and is a great source of calcium, and vitamins D & E. It's nutritionally rich and free of antibiotics and growth hormones. Everyone knows that almonds are sooooo good for you. I use the vanilla almond milk instead of cow's milk in our smoothies and cereal, and plain unsweetened almond milk for baking, etc.
Give this stuff a try, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. My kiddos drink it right out of the carton. Seriously. Out of the carton. Even my manly, milk-drinkin husband likes it. For extra incentive...go to the Blue Diamond website and print yourself a coupon. Just click on "promotions", and you can print two 50-cent coupons.
YUM.

RESOLUTIONS

As we begin a fresh new year, I find myself, along with the rest of the world, excited for "fresh starts". While its a bit cliche', I also have put together a list of resolutions for 2010.

*first and foremost, I would like to nurture my relationship with God. Learn more about his word. Listen to him more. We are attending a church we love, and I would love to find a small group for us to join.

*Nurture my marriage. Treat my husband with the respect he deserves, even if I may disagree with him. I want our children to grow up and have healthy, loving relationships. Unfortunately, we don't always set the best examples for them. I will praise my husband more, criticize him less, and love him unconditionally.

*Continue to focus on my health. The past few months have brought a complete lifestyle change for me. It's my new normal, and I love it. I have literally never felt better than I do right now, and I know it will only get better. The healthy eating, yoga and religious excercise are slowly changing my body as well as my mind!

*Nurture my children more, and be more patient with them. Play with them more, raise my voice at them less.

*Stop complaining so much.

There are a few others, but they are private so I'm keeping them to myself. I love the fresh start that January brings.....I always feel so encouraged by it. Good luck on your resolutions!!

POLKA DOT POTTERY

Today we went to one of our favorite places ever....Polka Dot Pottery. We met up with some friends from Gracie's Daisy Scout troop. Cole and Gracie always enjoy it when we get to go there.
We used this time to finally get our traditional Christmas ornaments painted...yes...one week AFTER Christmas! Hey, its been a busy season! We have these for every year since the kids have been born. For their first Christmases we had their handprints put on the ornaments (these are the two on the very top in the photo) and after that we have let them paint them however they wish. Here are just a few from over the years....Cole preparing to work on his newest masterpiece...Gracie spent alot of time on hers....she's a perfectionist like her Mama.... Cole.....well he just slaps some paint on it and calls it good! I was proud that he wrote "God is the one" on his ornament. I love that he understands that!
We will get the finished product next Saturday...I'll post pictures then!
